Immerse yourself in the vibrant Afro-Brazilian culture of the Recôncavo Baiano on an unmissable tour. From the historic streets of Santo Amaro da Purificação to the community of descendants of enslaved individuals at Quilombo Kaonge, every moment of this experience is enriching.
The Recôncavo Baiano is a region steeped in history and culture, known for its struggle for Brazilian independence and the influence of African heritage. Our itinerary begins in the city of Santo Amaro da Purificação, located 111km from Salvador. This beautiful city in the Recôncavo was primarily driven by sugarcane plantations and enslaved labor. As we stroll through the city streets, we will observe the centuries-old mansions and bustling public market. We will visit the main church of the city, Nossa Senhora da Purificação, as well as the Church of the Humble.
Next, we will journey through numerous plantations towards Quilombo Kaonge. There, we will have the opportunity to experience the daily life of this community of descendants of enslaved individuals and share in their traditions, wisdom, and flavors. We will engage in conversation with the Grio or partake in a "quilombola chat," learning about the production of palm oil, cassava flour, and herbal syrup. Additionally, we will indulge in a traditional lunch to savor the delights of quilombola cuisine.
After the visit, we will return to Salvador and drop you off at your hotel.
